Biblical Joy Part 1

Can you have joy in your life apart from God? What does it mean to have joy in your life as a Christian? What keeps us from having joy in our life? These were questions I discussed with some people tonight. Here are some corresponding Bible verses:

Neh 8:10: “…the joy of the LORD is your strength.”

Psalm 4:7: “You have put more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and wine abound.”

Hab 3:18: “yet I will rejoice in the LORD; I will take joy in the God of my salvation.”

James 1:2: “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds.”

1 John 1:4: “…we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.”

2:15: “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”

Echoed in 5:19 “We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.

5:5: “Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?”

This was a really short post, but I hope it gives a starting point for a further discussion down the road about joy. One has to ask, what kind of joy is being expounded upon in the Bible? Ultimately, the question can be, how do we experience that?
