Though I doubt I will cover much more on Microsoft past their press conferences, I did think it was interesting that a bit of information was (sort of ) leaked today regarding Microsoft’s Project Natal. It was officially named Kinect. A USA Today article revealed this information, and some games. One of particular interest to me is one called “Kinect Sports”, supposedly featuring boxing, bowling, beach volleyball, track and field, soccer and table tennis. Sound familiar? To me, it’s a hybrid of Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort. It’s almost if they’re taunting Nintendo with this game. Microsoft clearly thinks they can do this better than Wii.
But the Wii has been doing Wii Sports for 3.5 years now, and Wii Sports Resort for about a year. I was never a huge fan of Wii Sports, to be honest. Though, I’ll admit, the concept is cool. The Wii clearly found a good market doing this. It seems like Microsoft is trying to reach out to this market now, possibly grabbing some. But again, Wii has been doing this for years. I highly doubt that Microsoft will see people ‘convert’ to them because of this. They really need to offer some new IPs instead of rehashing something Nintendo has already clearly capitalized on.
Just some pre-E3 thoughts on that. I am sure I’ll have more to say after Microsoft’s press conference tomorrow. Until then, see you guys.
