A SMASHing Delay

Yes, Super Smash Bros. Brawl has been delayed by about a month. Its new release date is March 9th, 2008. I am welcoming to this slight pushback, and I seem to be one of the few. I’ve heard many complaints, but none are unexpected. I hear the same things all the time whenever a game gets delayed. I really don’t see the big deal. I want people to consider all the games that have been delayed numerous times and then consider the quality of the games themselves.

Resident Evil 4: Delayed numerous times in 2004, and eventually made a final pushback to January of 2005. The end result was what some consider to be the best game for Gamecube. Some said it was the best console game ever made. Its overall rating was very high, many sites giving it “Best Of” awards for many categories.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess: Delayed many times in 2005, and then til the end of 2006. The result was making itself as a launch title for the Wii, and again receiving much praise, some calling it better than Ocarina of Time.

These are just two games that received numerous delays. There are plenty. I’ve heard some complain about it being over 6 years since the previous rendition. Banjo-Tooie came out in 2000, folks. It’s 2008 and there is still no third game in the series. We may go the entire year without seeing the game come to fruition (on Xbox 360, of course). I personally am waiting for Pikmin 3, and it’s been nearly four years since Pikmin 2. Even Mario Kart: Double Dash took a while to come out, and both Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy missed their respective console launch dates, and were still highly praised. While Sunshine wasn’t nearly as praised as the new Galaxy, it was good nonetheless.

February was proving to be a little busy for me. March won’t be easier, but it gives me a little more peace in knowing that I won’t be hosting four-hour parties in my room for two more months. Is that enjoyable? Of course. Is it stressful and time-consuming? You bet! I mean, of course I want this game, guys. I just don’t see the point in complaining. I can almost guarantee this is the last delay. Nintendo will still get plenty of sales during this fiscal year. Remember, Nintendo’s fiscal year ends when April 2008 begins, so there’s no reason not to end their fiscal year strong with this game. I expect no more delays and I also expect a killer game.
